Cathryn Brown picked a good time to shoot in the 60s for the first time in tournament play. The Lyon County junior shot a 1-under 69 Monday to win a qualifier for this week’s Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior Tournament.
She began her day with a birdie on the par-5 first hole at the Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland. She made the turn at 2-under par and birdied the par-5 10th hole. A bogey on No. 14 got her back to 1-under where she finished for the five-shot win.
As the qualifier medalist, Brown enters the field for her first American Junior Golf Association [AJGA] event that begins Wednesday.
It’s part of a busy week for Brown who finished tied for 17th place Thursday at the U.S.G.A. Girls’ Junior Qualifier at Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shepherdsville. She shot a 4-over-par 76, which was one shot behind Marshall County’s Trinity Beth who finished tied for 14th and represented the best finish for a western Kentucky golfer.
