By the end of last season freshman Isaiah Jackson was Kentucky’s most productive player — especially when he was not in foul trouble — and is now positioned to be a first-round NBA Draft pick.
Many believe freshman Daimion Collins could be the same type of player. Collins averaged 35.2 points, 14.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 6.2 blocks per game last season at Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Texas, and was named the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year.
Collins doesn’t mind the comparison to Jackson. He even called it a “fair” comparison during his media time at UK’s basketball camp in Lexington Friday.
“He was a really good player defensive-wise and offensive-wise, so I think that’s a fair comparison.”
Yet he’s not worried about too much being expected of him too soon with the overall roster Kentucky has.
“There’s no pressure,” Collins said. “I’m going to go out there and give it my all every single game.”
His two freshmen teammates, TyTy Washington and Bryce Hopkins have formed a “good relationship” with him
“We met a few times before we got (to Lexington), but since we got here, our relationship has built a lot more,” Collins said. “We’re just focused on doing what we’ve got to do to win a national championship.”
