Three Fulton pitchers combined to hold the Hoptown Hoppers to a single hit in a 5-1 Railroader victory on Thursday night at Colonel Field. At 11-6, Fulton sits just above the Hoppers (10-8) in second place in the OVL South division.
Fulton got on the board in the top of the third after Patrick Music drew a walk from Hopper starting pitcher Tyler McLaren and came home on a double by Britt Netterville.
The Railroaders added a couple of runs in the top of the fifth on a Hopper error and an RBI double by Davis Crane. That would be the end of McLaren’s night with Valek Cisneros coming on to start the sixth.
The Hoppers cut the margin to two with a run in their half of the eighth when Riley Garczynski came through with a two-out double to score Cam Thompson.
However, the Railroaders put the game away with a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth off Hopper reliever Garrett Sagro, and Hoptown went down in order in its final at-bat.
McLaren took the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Grant Higginbotham got the win with seven strong innings for Fulton, striking out three and issuing three walks.
Music and Crane each had two hits and drove in a run for the Railroaders.
