Hoppers Drop Error-Filled Matchup at Dubois County

Miscues were the theme in the Hoptown Hoppers trip to Dubois County on Saturday. with the teams combining for thirteen errors in an 8-7 Bombers’ victory.  The Hoppers drop their third straight to slip to 10-10 overall, third in the South division.

Down 3-0, the Hoppers jumped in front with 4 runs in the top of the second, including a bases-loaded double by Jake Parr.

The Bombers pulled even on an RBI double by Simon Scherry in the bottom of the second and recovered the lead on a run-scoring single by Conner Oxley in the fifth.

Two more runs crossed in the bottom of the sixth on a steal of home and a Hopper error, but the game was tied again in the seventh when Hoptown took advantage of a two-run Bomber error followed by a Tanner Holliman RBI single.

Hoptown starting pitcher Colby Downard lasted five innings, allowing five runs, only two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.  Valek Cisneros worked the sixth and seventh, yielding two runs, one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk, before making way for Garrett Sagro to start the eighth.

Sagro allowed a run on a hit with a pair of walks, leaving the Hoppers down 8-7 going into their final at-bat.  Cam Thompson was hit by a pitch to put the tying run on base with one out, but Dubois County’s Carter Stamm capped five innings of work on the mound with a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

Parr had a pair of hits and three RBI for the Hoppers, Brannigan had a hit and drove in two, and Holliman reached once with an RBI.

Stamm got the win for the Bombers, allowing three unearned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.  Oxley and Kevin Butler each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
