The Lyon County American Legion Post 68 Aces swept Carrier Mills, Ill., for the second time in three days, claiming a pair of games Friday night in Eddyville.

Austin Long’s RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh gave Lyon a 3-2 win in the opener.

Post 68 then rode the one-hit pitching of Joe Peca to a 9-1 triumph in game two.

Cody Holub had the big bat for the Aces on Friday, going 4-for-7 in the twinbill with a pair of runs batted in.

Holub had a home run and a double in the first game while scoring two of Lyon’s three runs in the contest.

The former Caldwell County standout had a pair of doubles in the late game and again scored twice.

Union County product Cameron Clements went the distance on the mound in game one. He allowed two unearned runs on seven base hits while fanning nine and walking none.

Long, who turned in several strong pitching performances in Lyon County High School’s recent run to the state semifinals, ended the game with his base hit in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs in a 2-2 ballgame, Long drove a pitch into centerfield to plate the game-winning run.

In game two, Peca, a Trigg County product, struck out nine and walked four while surrendering just the one base hit.

Post 68 put the second game away by scoring three times in the third inning and five times in the fourth.

Lyon, now 7-9, won a pair of games at Carrier Mills on Wednesday, claiming 2-1 and 4-2 decisions.
