Former Christian County head football coach and athletic director Steve Lovelace is facing theft charges following his arrest Monday. According to information from the Christian County Jail website, Lovelace was charged Monday with one count of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property less than $10,000, a Class D Felony, and one count of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $10,000, a Class C Felony.
Information concerning the charges has not been released. Officials with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office tell YourSportsEdge.Com that Lovelace was served Monday with an indictment containing the charges against him. He will now face arraignment on those charges.
A theft by failure to make required disposition charge has several elements which could include obtaining property and not making a payment, failure to make an account of the property upon lawful demand, or an audit that reveals a shortage or falsification of accounts.
Lovelace, whose name was misspelled on the jail website, was not in the Christian County Jail as of Monday evening.
Lovelace, who recently joined the football staff at Paducah Tilghman High School, resigned as head coach of the Christian County football team on March 16th, less than two weeks after the Christian County schools announced that he was no longer the athletic director at the school.
In a statement issued through the communications director at the Christian County Public Schools, Superintendent Chris Bentzel stated that since the matter involved someone who was no longer an employee of the school district, the Christian County Public Schools would have no further comment on the matter.
