Jay Nimmo led the western Kentucky contingent of golfers this week at the rain-shortened Barbasol Junior Championship at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville.

Heavy rain in central Kentucky forced the event to be final after Wednesday’s second round.  Preston Summerhays of Scottsdale, Arizona shot 11-under par for the two days and won by six shots.  Summerhays will receive an exemption to the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship July 15-18.

Marshall County alum and Mississippi State signee Jay Nimmo finished his two days at 3-over to finish tied for 28th, eight shots behind the winner.

Nimmo shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, helped by three birdies.  He finished with a 74 with a pair of birdies on Wednesday.

St. Mary golfer Rocco Zakutney tied for 60th place with a two-day score of 9-over par.  He had four birdies in an up and down first round and was more consistent Wednesday with two birdies good for a round of 76.

Madisonville-North Hopkins High School senior Jackson Hill scuffled to a first-round 81 but rallied for a second-round score of 75 with a score of 1-under on the back nine.  He finished tied for 69th at 12-over.

Marshall County’s Trey Wall also finished tied for 69th at 12-over.  He shot an even-par 72 in the second round that included three birdies for a 2-under 34 score on the front nine.
