Madisonville Makes Region Statement in Lady Maroon Invite Win

The Madisonville-North Hopkins girls’ golf team opened the 2021 season by making the statement that a third straight region title is well within their grasp.

The Lady Maroons won their own invitational by 50 shots Friday on the same Madisonville Country Club Course that will host the region tournament in September.

Kat Weir brought home her first invitational tournament title with a 1-over par 74.  She edged her Madisonville teammate Kaitlyn Zieba by one shot for the individual title.

Weir made par on the first eight holes of the front nine and went out at 1-over. She had a birdie and a bogey on the back nine to shoot even par and secure the win.

Zieba shot a 2-over 38 on the front nine and even par on the back nine for a 75.

Karra Tucker made it a 1-2-3 sweep with a 77 that included a 1-under 36 on the back nine.

Defending region and KHSAA state champion Macey Brown of Apollo was fourth with a round of 78.

Stella Knight carded a 90 for Madisonville, and Sydney Browning added a 91.  Grace Riddle, who joins the Lady Maroon squad after transferring from Hopkins County Central, played as an individual and shot a career-best 88.

Madisonville shot a team score of 316 which was 50 shots better than second-place Daviess County.  Hopkinsville was third with 382 points.
