The Christian County Colonels wrapped up the preseason Thursday evening as they hosted Mayfield on the pitch at the Stadium of Champions. The young Colonels battled early on in the contest, but would end up dropping a 5-0 decision to the Cardinals.
The match was scoreless until about midway through the opening half, when Mayfield scored two goals in a span of four minutes to take a 2-0 lead that would hold until halftime.
In the second half, possession was controlled by the Cardinals as they kept what felt like constant pressure on the Christian County defense. Defensively, Mayfield allowed the Colonels very few opportunities. The constant pressure in the second half eventually took its toll as the Cardinals would find the net three more times to close out the match.
Christian County is set to open the regular season Monday evening when they host Franklin-Simpson.
