Blake Vivrette had a goal and two assists as Caldwell County claimed its soccer season opener Monday night.

The Tigers built a 2-0 lead in the first half and held off Webster County 3-1 in action at Butler Stadium in Princeton.

Caldwell grabbed the lead in the 16th when Vivrette blistered a free kick from just outside the box. The ball found the upper part of the net on the left side to put the Tigers up 1-0.

Later in the half, Vivrette sent a ball across to help set up Weston Phelps. Phelps finished to put Caldwell up 2-0 at the break.

Webster made things interesting with an early goal in the second half. Denny Rivas scored for the Trojans to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

The score remained there until the 71st minute, when the Tigers gained some valuable breathing room.

Vivrette played the ball ahead to Timothy Nichols, who slipped behind the Webster defense. Nichols blasted the ball into the net to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

Caldwell not only won its season opener, but played well doing it.

The Tigers will get a big challenge on Thursday when defending 2nd Region champion Henderson County visits Princeton.
