Rose Smith came into her senior season needing seven goals to reach the 100-goal mark for her career. The Lyon County senior got that milestone hunt over with early as she tallied the seven goals she needed to lead the Lady Lyons past Union County 10-0 in the 2021 season opener at Lee S. Jones Park Monday.
Smith scored her first goal seven minutes into the contest. Leah Schroeder and Alice Smith followed with goals in the next nine minutes to up the Lady Lyon lead to 3-0.
Smith then scored six of Lyon County’s next seven goals over the final 21 minutes of the first half. Her 100th career goal came in the final two minutes of the half.
Schroeder, who led the Lady Lyons in scoring as a junior, added two goals and two assists. Alice Smith chipped in with four assists, and Anna White had one.
Smith’s seven goals were two off the school record set by Jill P’Poole in 2012. Smith joins P’Poole as Lady Lyons with 100 or more career goals.
Lyon County has won five straight games against Union County dating back to 2017.
The Lady Lyons will host Christian County Thursday.
