Megan Lacy hadn’t scored a goal since her sophomore year, but the Christian County senior picked the perfect time to end her drought as her perfectly placed shot from the right side in the game’s final minute resulted in a 3-3 tie against Lyon County Thursday in Eddyville.
Down a goal, Christian County pressured the Lyon goal in the game’s final five minutes before Lacy’s game-tying shot.
Rose Smith had put Lyon ahead 3-2 on a nifty goal with five minutes left that saw her control possession with a header and then beat a Lady Colonel for the goal.
For Smith, it was her second goal of the game and ninth in two games for the Lady Lyons.
Both teams notched goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Aliyah Lander scored off a pass from Lilly Larkins to get the Lady Colonels on the board.
Smith quickly answered off an assist from Hubbard to knot the game at 1-1. That score would hold up through halftime.
Christian County grabbed the lead in the 54th minute when freshman Taylor Dunn scored her first varsity goal thanks to some miscommunication in front of the Lady Lyon net.
Leah Schroeder tied the game 12 minutes later with an unassisted goal out front.
Maddie Russell made 17 saves for the Lady Lyons. Carlisa Hobson and Cheyanne Rodgers split time in goal for Christian County. Hobson had seven first-half saves, while Rodgers added four in the second half.
Lyon County was looking for its first win over Christian County since 2016 but had to settle for its first tie in four years.
Christian County is scheduled to play at Owensboro Catholic on August 21. Lyon County will host Caldwell County Friday night at Lee S. Jones Park.
