Henderson County made its first regular-season trip to Butler Stadium in Princeton and outscored Caldwell County 8-5 in boys’ soccer action Thursday night.

Henderson (2-0) got three goals and two assists from Ashton Todd while holding off Caldwell.

Meanwhile, the Tigers (1-1) got a hat trick from Blake Vivrette, who also had an assist.

The game was tied 1-1 when the teams headed to a water break halfway through the first 40 minutes.

But the visiting Colonels struck for tallies in the 22nd and 23rd minutes to take the lead for good.

Caldwell got back to within 3-2 before three goals in the final 8 minutes sent Henderson to halftime up 6-2.

The Tigers continued to battle after the break, even outscoring the Colonels 3-2 in the final 40 minutes.

A Vivrette goal in the 55th minute had Caldwell within 7-5 in the high-scoring affair.

But Henderson salted the game away with a late goal.

Caldwell got two goals from Weston Phelps.

Grayden Miller assisted on Vivrette’s final goal of the night.

Braeden Myers-Curry had two goals and three assists for Henderson. Trevor Book had a goal and an assist while Zander WIlson and Oswauldo Aya each scored once.

Caldwell and Henderson have met just three times on the soccer pitch. The previous two meetings were in the 2014 and 2015 2nd Region tournaments.

However, Caldwell and Henderson have played several preseason scrimmages against one another through the years.

The Tigers will play at Lyon County Friday night as part of a girls and boys doubleheader.
