Points were hard to come by for Trigg County as they dropped its volleyball opener to Calloway County in three sets Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

Calloway County outscored Trigg 25-5, 25-2, 25-7 to claim the straight set win.

“There’s going to be some growing pains through the early part of the season,” said first-year coach Stephen Erdmann.  “While we have six returning seniors, they are learning an entirely new system both offensively and defensively.”

Savannah Garnett had three assists for the Lady Wildcats, while Abigail Johnson had five digs.  Skye Williamson and Grace White each contributed three digs, and Megan Hicks had an ace.

“There were moments tonight where I saw what we’re capable of.  We hit the floor to dig the ball, made accurate passes, and started to control the net better.  We just need to talk on the court and become more comfortable with the movement and flow of the game and we’ll become a more aggressive team,” said Erdmann.

Trigg County will host Hopkinsville Thursday in the second of four straight home matches to begin the season.

“We have a full schedule this season with up to 31 matches, and by the end of next week, they’ll already have five under their belt.  So, they’ll be getting plenty of opportunities to make progress with their team game,” Erdmann said.
