Muhlenberg County scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to put away Trigg County 3-0 in soccer action on Tuesday at the Trigg Rec Complex.

It was the third-straight win for the Mustangs (3-1-1) and second in a row over a 5th District foe after prevailing at Lyon County 5-0 on Monday.

For much of the night, a goal in the 23rd minute was the only tally, with Muhlenberg grabbing the lead midway through the first half.

Ruben Garcia played the ball ahead to Dylan Niemi, who found the net to stake the Mustangs to a 1-0 lead.

That’s where things stayed until the 71st minute. A foul in the outer corner of the box led to a penalty kick by Mason Lile. He converted into the right side of the net to put Muhlenberg up 2-0.

The final score came with another assist from Garcia, who set up Camden Newman’s long blast in the 77th minute to extend the margin to 3-0.

Oak Shain had 12 saves for Muhlenberg.

Joseph Crawford recorded seven saves for Trigg.

The Wildcats, now 0-3-1, will go to Christian County on Monday.
