In a battle of two of the most improved soccer teams in their respective regions, Hopkins County Central used a late penalty kick to slip past Todd County Central 3-2 Tuesday in Elkton.
Austin Sifuentes was fouled from behind and then converted the penalty kick in the 71st minute for the game-winner.
Hopkins County Central improved to 3-3 with its second straight win.
Aaron Mansfield opened the scoring for the Rebels when he hooked in a first half free kick.
Clayton Hooke answered for the Storm in the 24th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Hopkins Central grabbed the lead for the first time when Jaxon Greer scored his third goal of the season on a direct kick from 25 yards out in the 36th minute.
The Rebels quickly responded when Zack Robinson scored off a corner kick in the 38th minute to tie the match at 2-2.
Both teams showed off their improved defense with Sifuentes’ penalty kick the lone goal in the second half.
Todd Central fell to 0-2 and will play at Warren East Tuesday. Hopkins Central travels to Owensboro Catholic Monday.
