Tis hard to start a volleyball season much better than the UHA Lady Blazers did Thursday evening. UHA cruised to a straight-set win over Hopkins County Central at Blazer Gym.
The Lady Blazers took the opening set 25-17. Hopkins Central battled in the second set, but UHA found a way to turn the Lady Storm back, taking the set 26-24. The third set ended up being all Lady Blazers as UHA rolled to a 25-11 win to close out the match 3-0.
Several players for UHA had solid efforts in the season opener. Olivia Oakley finished with 5 aces, 5 digs, and 2 kills. Sarah Peebles had 4 aces, 8 digs, and 2 kills. Peebles also had 18 assists. Sophomore Julia Thomas was a force at the net, ending the night with 10 kills and 3 blocks. Claire Chewning chipped in with 4 kills, 2 blocks, 4 aces, and 1 dig.
The Lady Blazers, who open the season at 1-0, are set to be back on the court this weekend at the Apollo Summer Slam.
