
The defending 2nd Region volleyball champs came roaring out of the gate to start the brand new season Thursday night. Led by a very balanced team effort, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers went on the road and came away with a straight-set win over the Christian County Lady Colonels.
Early on it appeared like the two teams might be in for a long night. In the opening set, the two teams were tied at 2, 3, and 4. With Caldwell County holding an 8-7 lead, the Lady Tigers ripped off a 14-3 run to take a 22-10 lead. The Lady Tigers would go on to win the set 25-18. Caldwell County got a big opening set from Savannah Scott and Katie Menser.
With Addie Sullenger at the serve, Caldwell County opened the second set with nine straight points, two of those on service aces. The Lady Tigers rolled on from there to win the set 25-8 and go up in the match two sets to none. It was another big set for Katie Menser, as well as Kynady Thomas for Caldwell County.
The Lady Colonels tried to get back into the match in the third set. They trailed only 10-9 at one point, but the Lady Tigers were then able to close out the match by outscoring the Lady Colonels 15-5 to win the set 25-14 and complete the three-set sweep.
Savannah Scott led the Lady Tiger attack at the net finishing with eight kills. Brylee Butts had seven. Katie Menser added six of her own. Addie Sullenger chipped in with four service aces and 31 assists. Mary Tays had a huge night with 25 digs for the Lady Tigers.
Camryn Armstrong finished the night with five kills for Christian County. Hailey Sparks added two service aces and a kill for the Lady Colonels.
Christian County returns to action next Thursday at University Heights. Caldwell County is set to host McLean County on Tuesday.
