With seven 13th-District championship match losses to Logan County over the last twenty seasons, including last year, the Todd County Central volleyball team is due for a postseason victory over the Lady Cougars. With nearly the entire roster back from a season ago, the Lady Rebels have reason to be optimistic that 2021 may be their year.
After a runner-up district finish, the Lady Rebels’ season ended last year with a loss to eventual 4th-Region champions Greenwood, the team’s second-straight trip to the region tourney.
A trio of junior All-District performers lead the charge to improve on 2020’s 10-12 record. Outside hitter Lucy Chester had team-highs of 267 kills, nearly four per game, and 61 aces, along with 251 digs.
Another outside hitter, Lanie Bivins, was second on the squad with 162 kills and 42 aces. Bivins also paced the Lady Rebels with 33 blocks, more than four times any other player.
Setter Addileigh Wofford will look to build on her district recognition after handing out 466 assists last year, with 135 digs and 27 aces.
Libero Meredith Drummond, the team’s lone senior, was second on the team with 30 assists and posted a team-high 277 digs, while also serving up 27 aces.
Sophomore hitters Chloe Willis and Lynnlee Jones combined for 96 kills in 2020, with Willis adding 27 digs. Junior Autumn Sears was third on the team with 37 aces. Junior transfer Emily Oden will provide another option at middle hitter for first-year coach Steven Lyne.
Lyne also expects production from a group of youngsters, including freshmen Callie Chapman and Emily Thomas, and 8th-grader Allyssa Wofford.
The Lady Rebels hit the court to start the regular season on August 21 when they travel to Russellville to face Monroe County in the opening round of the 4th-Region All-A tourney. They won’t have to wait long to measure themselves against district favorites Logan County, with the Lady Cougars visiting Elkton on the 24th.
