Shaedon Sharpe made a big impression on the Grind Session last season playing for Dream City Christian of Glendale, Arizona. The five-star shooting guard just got better and better. Kentucky commit Skyy Clark made a visit to Arizona to see Sharpe play after he made his commitment to Kentucky. The 6-4, 175-pound Sharpe and Clarke are friends and both among the top players in the 2022 recruiting class — and Sharpe might soon rise to No. 1 or No. 2.
Several people told me before last season ended that Sharpe would eventually be at Kentucky, especially since his mentor had close connections to John Calipari and loved what he did for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Clark also indicated he thought Sharpe would pick Kentucky.
Sharpe has announced a final five of Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, and the G League and could make his decision soon — something that has changed from his original plan to wait until his senior season ended.
Already CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander says he’s certain Sharpe will pick Kentucky.
“I think him going to Kentucky is considered the lock of locks at this point,” Norlander told Gary Parrish on the Eye on College Basketball podcast. “I think Shaedon Sharpe has a shot at being the best guy in the class.”
Sharpe has been careful to indicate his recruiting remains open and that he is not a lock for Kentucky. But as I predicted months ago, Sharpe sure seems like a huge UK lean to me.
If he does pick Kentucky, UK fans will have chances to see him play next season unless COVID derails the season. His team will play at Marshall County Hoopfest Dec. 2-5 and McCracken County Mustang Madness Jan. 6-9.
