Caldwell County freshman Collin Whittington shot a 1-over-par 38 on the front nine and went on to finish at 5-over 77 in Saturday’s 2nd Region All A Classic golf tournament at Princeton Golf Club.

That was good enough to capture medalist honors by four shots over Addison Whalen of Dawson Springs.

Whittington had two birdies, five bogeys, and a double-bogey on the par-3 10th hole during his round.

Whalen qualified for state when his Dawson Springs squad finished first in the team standings.

Lyon County’s Travis Perry was third overall at 82 but had the second lowest score not on the winning team, earning him a trip to state as well.

Crittenden County’s Jeremiah Foster shot an 83 while Caldwell’s Austin Crick was next with an 88.

Dawson’s team score of 367 was 10 shots better than runner-up Caldwell.

The All A Classic regional was delayed by 3 hours Saturday morning due to rain moving through the area. Many of the golfers also endured a 45-minute stoppage due to lightning and storms, but the lead groups had already finished before the afternoon break.

The boys’ state All A Classic will be played Sept. 12 at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.
