The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers wrapped up their appearance in the 2021 Apollo Summer Slamdown with a fourth place finish in the bronze bracket Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers went 1-2 during the bracket play of the tournament.
Hoptown began Saturday matched up with Muhlenberg County in the quarterfinal round of the bronze bracket. The match was a three-set battle with the Lady Tigers finding a way to come out on top 25-19, 16-25, and 15-7.
The win advanced them to the semifinals in the bronze bracket, where they matched up against Grayson County out of the 3rd Region. The match was the Lady Cougars’ from beginning to end as they knocked off the Lady Tigers 25-15 and 25-6.
That put Hopkinsville into the 3rd place match of the bronze bracket, where they would face a very familiar foe, the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers. The Lady Blazers went on to take the match in straight sets, winning 25-19 and 25-16.
Coming out of the Apollo tournament, Hopkinsville now stands at 2-4 after the opening week of the season. The Lady Tigers are set to host UHA in a rematch Monday night in Tiger Gym.
