After a tough evening in pool play Friday, the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers rebounded to take third place in the bronze bracket of the Apollo Summer Slamdown. The Lady Blazers went 2-1 during the day on Saturday to finish out the event.
UHA began Saturday matched up against regional foe Webster County. The Lady Blazers were able to get past the Lady Trojans in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-18.
In the bronze bracket semifinals, UHA was paired up against another 2nd Region foe, Madisonville-North Hopkins. The Lady Maroons won a close, hard-fought first set 26-24. Madisonville then closed out the match by winning the second set 25-17.
With the loss, the Lady Blazers moved into the 3rd place match of the bronze bracket, where crosstown rival Hopkinsville awaited. The Lady Blazers took the match in straight sets, winning 25-19 and 25-16.
Coming out of the Apollo tournament, UHA now stands at 3-3 after the opening week of the season. The Lady Blazers are set to face Hopkinsville again Monday night in Tiger Gym.
