
The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers and the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers met for the second time in three days Monday at Tiger Gym. For the second time, the Lady Blazers came away with a sweep, this time in three sets.
UHA took a two-set win Saturday at the Apollo Summer Slamdown.
Early on in the first set it looked like it might be a long night at Tiger Gym. The two squads went back and forth, with the score tied on four occasions, the last coming at 12-12. UHA then dropped a hammer, scoring 12 points in a row. The Lady Blazers would take the set 25-14.
The second set saw the Lady Blazers take an early 4-1 lead. UHA was able to keep the Lady Tigers at arm’s length for the rest of the set and won the set 25-17 to go up two sets to none.
The third set was more of the same. UHA opened the set by scoring the first seven points. The Lady Blazers cruised on from there, winning the set 25-16 to close out the match.
Olivia Oakley led UHA at the net with 6 kills. She added 4 digs and 2 aces. Suzie Comperry finished with 5 kills, 3 aces, and 3 digs. Julia Thomas added 4 kills, 4 aces, and 2 digs. Sarah Peebles ended the night with 18 assists.
For Hopkinsville, Aloria Moyd had four kills. Addyson Fortin, Hailey Hallmark, and Allison Luttrull added three each. Amy Toms chipped in with 12 assists for the Lady Tigers.
UHA improves to 4-3 on the year. The Lady Blazers return to the court Tuesday night when they host Fort Campbell.
Hopkinsville drops to 2-5. The Lady Tigers are set to be back in action Tuesday night at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
