It was an afternoon where you could sweat just by breathing. On a scorching hot day on the pitch at Givens Field, the Apollo Eagles “sweated” out six goals on their way to a 6-1 win over the University Heights Academy Blazers.

The Blazers opened like they would be right there with the Eagles all afternoon. UHA got three great looks at the net over the first ten minutes, but could not convert any of them. Connor Dill, Ethan Alexander and Preston Thomas, all had good looks early on. Apollo took that opportunity then to seize control of the match and run away.

Houston Collins broke through for Apollo at the 15:40 mark when he took a left-footed shot and crossed it across the front of the net to give Apollo a 1-0 lead. The Eagles then extended the lead to 2-0 when Harrison Bowman drilled a penalty kick.

Collins got things rolling again for Apollo in the second half with a left-footed crossing shot to push the margin out to 3-0. The lead grew to 4-0 when Jason Stilwell took the rebound of a shot right in front of the net and drove it home to make the score 5-0.

The bright spot on the day for the Blazers came at the 66:30 mark when Connor Dill drilled a shot off an indirect kick to cut the lead to 5-1.

Apollo got the goal back when Dah Hai scored on a breakaway down the right side of the field to set the final score at 6-1.

After the first ten minutes, the Eagles were dominant in shots on goal and possession. For the match, Apollo outshot UHA 26-8.

The loss drops UHA to 4-3 on the season. The Blazers are set to travel to Hopkinsville Tuesday evening.
