The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers took a big first step in the seeding process for the 8th District girls’ soccer tournament Saturday evening. Even with several players still out of the lineup, the Lady Tigers took care of business with a mercy rule 11-1 win over the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons at the Stadium of Champions.
Abby Moss and Grasen Givens led the way for the Lady Tigers in the match. Each of the seniors scored four goals as Hoptown picked up its first district win since September 15, 2020.
Moss scored a goal at the 12:30 mark, followed by Givens with a goal at the 17:00 to give the Lady Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Anna Hernandez followed that up with a goal of her own at 20:00 to extend the lead to 3-0.
Fort Campbell had a brief hope at a rally just under four minutes later when Keelin Gray snuck one through four defenders to cut the lead to 3-1.
Givens and Moss each scored again over the final sixteen minutes of the half to quell those rally thoughts and to push the lead out to 5-1 going into the break.
Moss opened the second half with her third goal of the night to move the lead out to 6-1. From there the Lady Tiger offense got things going in high gear with goals from Taryn Underwood, Morgan Woosley, Givens, and Moss to run the lead out to 10-1. A rocket shot from Givens ended the night with about 3:30 to go on the clock.
Hopkinsville improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the district with the win. The Lady Tigers are slated to host Marshall County Monday evening.
The Lady Falcons fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the district. They are set to host Trigg County on September 7.
