Caldwell Reaches 500 Wins While Taking All A Regional

It was a big day all around for the Caldwell County Lady Tiger volleyball team.

Caldwell County continued its mastery of the 2nd Region All A Classic volleyball tournament on Saturday — and reached a program milestone in the process.

The Lady Tigers defeated Crittenden County 25-18, 25-18 in semifinal action at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville. The win was the 500th in program history — the most in the 2nd Region.

Caldwell then picked up win No. 501 when it edged host UHA 25-23, 25-20 in the championship match.

That gave the Lady Tigers their 12th 2nd Region All A Classic title in 12 tries. Caldwell has won the “small school” regional every year they have been eligible for it.

The Lady Tigers (5-0) got six kills and a block from Katie Menser in the final while Savannah Scott had four kills and a block. Kynady Thomas also had four kills.

Adison Sullenger had 16 set assists and a kill.

Mary Tays had a team-high 12 digs while Kyndra Winters added five digs and two aces. Lily Hoard had two kills.

For UHA (7-4), Olivia Oakley had 11 kills and five digs while Julia Thomas had five kills, three aces and a block.

Claire Chewning added four kills, Sarah Peebles had 20 assists and a kill, and Evelyn Cotthoff led in digs with eight.

Caldwell advances to the state All A Classic Sept. 17-18 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Caldwell won an All A state championship in 2010.

• Caldwell advanced to the championship by turning back Crittenden County 25-18, 25-18 in the semifinals for the Lady Tigers’ 500th career victory (now 501-197-2 in 21 seasons).

Scott led Caldwell with seven kills in that match while Menser had five and Thomas three.

Sullenger recorded 16 set assists while Tays led the squad with 13 digs. Claire Knoth added nine digs and two aces.

• UHA had no trouble in its semifinal contest, blitzing Livingston Central 25-5, 25-6.

Oakley led the Lady Blazers with 16 aces and two kills. Chewning had five aces while Thomas recorded four kills and Peebles tallied 11 assists.
