The Trigg County volleyball team used a strong service game on Tuesday night to knock off hosts Livingston Central 3-0 for its first win of the season.

The Lady Wildcats also even their 5th-District record at 1-1 while handing the Lady Cardinals their first district setback of the season.

Trigg won its first set in four matches with a 29-27 result in the opener, before cruising to a 25-12 victory in the second.  Livingston put up a fight in the third, but the Lady Wildcats closed out the match with a 25-22 win.

“We learned a lot about ourselves tonight and what character we have as a team and how we deal with adversity.  Similar to Hopkinsville, where we saw ourselves up 15 to 9, we let the lead slip away and had to battle from behind multiple times,” said Lady Wildcat Coach Stephen Erdmann. “The girls came together and played their hearts and came back in a similar fashion with the opening win.   It really helped set the tone.”

Trigg County’s service game has steadily shown signs of improving, and Tuesday, it proved to be the key to the match win.

“This was the break-out game I was looking for earlier in the season, and we spent a good portion of practice on Monday with our serve and receive.  It showed tonight,” Erdmann said. ” Megan Hicks had one of her best service nights this season—especially the third set.  Skye Williamson gave us a lot of points tonight throughout the entire match.  Savannah Garnett, Rossie Baker, Grace White, and Keagan Greenwood all contributed as well.  Abby Johnson continues to spearhead the charge from the back row, and her competitive nature really drives the team to do more.”

A trip to Russellville on Thursday will be an opportunity to make it two wins in a row before the Lady Wildcats spend Friday and Saturday at the wRECk @ The Plex.
