Trigg County’s defense frustrated Lyon County for 60 minutes, but the Lady Lyons found some offensive success late.

Two goals in the final 20 minutes allowed Lyon’s girls to pull out a 2-1 triumph in 5th District action Tuesday at the Trigg Recreation Complex.

Trigg (2-2 overall, 1-1 district) got an early goal and led for much of the night.

Allie Hill sent a pass across the front of the net from the left side. Lania Hite finished in the box to put the Lady Wildcats up 1-0 in the 4th minute.

Trigg controlled much of the first half, outshooting Lyon 6-1 through the first 25 minutes of the contest.

At halftime, the Lady Wildcats held an 8-3 advantage in shots.

But Lyon (7-1-1, 2-0) began to generate more scoring opportunities in the second half. The Lady Lyons outshot Trigg 10-3 after the break to finish with a 13-11 edge in the contest.

However, Lyon didn’t find the net for the first time until the 61st minute. Rose Smith ran on to a pass, angled to the left, then chipped the ball past the goalkeeper to tie things at 1-1.

The final goal did not come until the 77th minute. Leah Schroeder scored from the top left corner of the box off an assist from Smith to give Lyon its first lead of the night.

Both keepers ended up with seven saves in the contest — Sarah Sink for Trigg and Maddie Russell for Lyon.

Both teams are scheduled to go on the road on Thursday — Trigg to Hopkins County Central and Lyon to Webster County.
