Fort Campbell was on the volleyball floor for the first time in nearly 11 months Thursday, but Hopkinsville welcomed them back with a straight-set loss at Tiger Gym.
Hoptown’s service game was the best of the season as the Lady Tigers won 25-17, 25-14, 25-18.
The match was the first for the Lady Falcons since a win over Trigg County on Oct. 8, 2020. Fort Campbell entered COVID protocol a week later and missed the postseason, ending its season with a 4-8 record.
Fort Campbell’s first three matches of the 2021 season were also canceled as they began the season in protocol.
Hoptown controlled the first set, mostly leading by three to six points throughout. Lori Moyd had three aces and two kills in the set, with Hailey Hallmark adding three kills.
Marlie Fanning and Maddie Thompson each had a pair of kills for the Lady Falcons.
The second set was much closer, featuring six ties – the last one at 9-9. Moyd again showed off her serving acumen with three aces as part of a 6-0 run that extended the Hoptown lead to 18-10.
Fort Campbell jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set before Hoptown rallied to tie it. The Lady Tigers eventually pushed the lead to 17-10. Fort Campbell rallied to get to within 20-17 thanks to a pair of kills by Thompson.
Hopkinsville was able to outlast the Lady Falcons down the stretch and pick up the win in the deciding set.
Hallmark finished with six kills for the Lady Tigers, while Moyd had six aces and four digs. Carly Chaudoin had five digs and three assists, and Danija Rogers contributed four assists.
Thompson led Fort Campbell with seven kills and nine digs. Fanning added six kills and eight assists, Abby Roby had 11 digs, and Diamond Jenkins had six digs and two aces.
Fort Campbell [0-4] will play another district match Tuesday with a visit to University Heights.
Hopkinsville [3-7] snapped a five-match losing streak and will also play a district match on the road Tuesday, visiting Christian County.
