Cathryn Brown credits a practice round with Emma Talley for her win Saturday at the Marshall County Invitational.
Brown shot a career-low 5-under-par 67 on the Calvert City Golf and Country Club course to beat second-place Trinity Beth of Marshall County by three shots.
The Lyon County junior made par on her first three holes of the day before running home the first of her five birdies on the par-5 fourth hole. Brown added a birdie on the par-3 seventh and went out with a 34.
She began the back nine with birdies on 10 and 11. She birdied the par-5 17th hole and concluded her bogey-free round with a par on 18 to come in at 33.
Brown’s previous best was a 69 shot at an AJGA qualifier in Ashland over the summer.
Brown got in a practice round with the LPGA pro and family friend on Friday. Talley, the former Caldwell County state champion and NCAA champion at the University of Alabama, is back home on a brief break from the LPGA Tour.
