One thing that came out of the Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors’ volleyball team’s appearance in the 2021 wReck at the Plex was that, in its first year as a member team of the KHSAA, the Lady Warriors are ready to compete with most any team in the area.
The Lady Warriors went 3-2 in the tournament and capped off their weekend with a three-set win over Christian County in the 7th place game.
HCA began play Friday evening taking on the Trigg County Lady Wildcats. The match belonged to the Lady Warriors from the beginning as they won in straight sets, winning the first 25-6 and then closing out the match by winning the second set 25-18.
Up next for the Lady Warriors was a solid Christian Community team, from White House, Tennessee. The Lady Warriors put up a fight, but ultimately fell to the Lady Colts in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-20. It was the first loss of the season in 12 matches for HCA.
The Lady Warriors got back to work in pool play Saturday morning with a return match against Christian Fellowship. The Lady Warriors picked up their first-ever KHSAA win earlier this season in five sets against the Lady Eagles. This matchup was another battle. The Lady Warriors won the opening set 26-24. Christian Fellowship battled back to take the second set 25-22. HCA got on a roll in the third set and closed out the match with a 15-7 win.
In a match that saw the biggest crowd of the day Saturday, the Lady Warriors then were paired up against defending 2nd Region champion Caldwell County in their final match of pool play. The two teams battled back and forth through the opening set before Caldwell County finally pulled out the 26-24 win. The second set was more of the same, with each team making runs at the other. Caldwell County finally closed out the match with a 25-22 win.
The results of pool play placed Heritage in the 7th place game against Christian County in the two teams’ first-ever matchup. The first set was all HCA as the Lady Warriors won 25-14. The second set was all Lady Colonels, as Christian County cruised 25-9. The third set was a nip and tuck affair, with the Lady Warriors finally securing a 15-13 win.
HCA’s record stands at 13-2 and they return to play Tuesday in a KCAA match against Galilean.
