
Webster County scored early and provided the necessary insurance to hand Trigg County a 4-1 loss Tuesday and advance to the semifinals of the Class 2A Boys’ Soccer Sectionals. The Trojans will play Paducah Tilghman Thursday.
Rocky Juan got Webster on the board just two minutes into the contest when he got behind the Trigg defense for his fourth goal of the season.
Trigg had trouble penetrating through the Webster defense and managed just two shots in the first half. One of those came on a breakaway in the ninth minute but the shot sailed wide.
Webster countered with its second goal of the half when Rodrigo Jimenez scored his first goal of the season on a shot out front.
Down 2-0 at halftime, Trigg got on the board in the 48th minute when Daniel Jimenez picked his way through the Trojan defense and scored with a shot from the left side. The goal was his team-leading fourth of the season.
Evan DeLemar countered for Webster County in the 56th minute with a shot from 25 feet out. Four minutes later, Juan added another goal to give Webster [5-3-1] all the room they needed.
Trigg County was outshot 20-5. Joseph Crawford made 14 saves for the Wildcats, while Webster goalie Jesus Martinez needed only two saves to get the win.
Trigg County [2-4-1] is scheduled to host St. Mary Monday.
