It’s been a slow start to the soccer season for the Fort Campbell Falcons, who have played just three matches so far.

But Tuesday’s contest at Lyon County was a highlight for the Falcons, who held off the Lyons 2-1 for their first victory of the year.

Fort Campbell scored its two goals just minutes apart midway through the first half.

Leon King scored on a penalty kick, then Aidan Blaszkowski got in behind the Lyon defense and scored from in close to put the Falcons up 2-0.

Lyon (1-11) cut the margin in half in the 37th minute when Timothy Stewart hammered home a direct kick from the right side of the box and into the left side of the net.

That made it a 2-1 ballgame at halftime.

Neither side found the net again in the final 40 minutes, but the Lyons spent most of the final 20 minutes putting pressure on the Fort Campbell goal.

However, time and time again the Falcons turned away the Lyons, even getting help from the post to keep the ball out of the net.

London Tubb and Chance Bryant combined in the Fort Campbell net to hold Lyon to just one goal.

Lyon had picked up its only win of the season on Aug. 24 when it claimed a 2-0 triumph at Fort Campbell.

The Lyons play at home again on Friday against Harrisburg, Ill.

Fort Campbell is scheduled to host University Heights Academy in 8th District action next Tuesday.
