A pair of tough losses Saturday for the Hopkinsville Tigers on the first day of the 2021 Boots and Butts Classic at the Stadium of Champions, as the Tigers faced off against top teams from the 1st and 12th regions.

The Tigers kicked off the event taking on the Murray High Tigers for the second time in three days. The result Saturday was not much different than Thursday evening’s match, which saw the western Tigers take a 7-1 win. Saturday, Murray’s offense again was a bit too much for the eastern Tigers as Murray took an 8-1 win. Freshman David Lopez found the net for the Tigers’ lone goal.

Early on in the second match, it looked like West Jessamine would make quick work of the Tigers. The Colts got their offense clicking and put up five goals in the first half and took a 5-0 lead into the break. The Tigers’ defense locked in a bit better on the Colts in the second half, holding them to just one additional goal. However, the Tigers could still not get their offensive attack going, as the Colts rolled on to a 6-0 win.

Hopkinsville, by virtue of a tiebreaker, moves on to the Sunday morning semifinals of the Boots and Butts Classic, where they will face the high-powered Elizabethtown Panthers. The other semifinal will have Murray taking on West Jessamine. The semifinals are set for 10 am, with the championship and consolation matches set for 2 pm Sunday afternoon.
