Hopkins Central’s girls ended a 22-year drought against Caldwell County on Monday.

The Lady Storm used a pair of early goals to turn back the Lady Tigers 2-0 in Mortons Gap.

Caldwell had won 27 straight matches against Hopkins Central going back to the 1999 season.

The Lady Tigers still hold a 31-4 lead in the all-time series. Before Monday, the Lady Storm had beaten Caldwell twice in 1998 and once in 1999.

Elissa Adams put Hopkins Central up 1-0 in the 7th minute of the most-recent matchup. Adams scored unassisted from the right side, putting a shot over Caldwell goalkeeper Rachel McClung and into the far side of the net.

Priya Holmes made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. She took a pass from Allie Childers and got in close to bury a shot.

That was more than enough offense as the Lady Storm defense turned in a shutout performance. Kire Peyton had six saves in the Hopkins Central net.

McClung had five saves for Caldwell.

Shots were relatively even for most of the night before a pair of late tries helped the Lady Storm earn an 11-8 advantage in that stat.

The Lady Tigers slip to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the district.

The Lady Storm is 6-5 and 1-1.

Caldwell’s girls play again tonight when they visit Union County.

Hopkins Central goes to Christian County on Thursday.
