Greenwood controlled play for much of the contest — especially the second half — but Caldwell County got a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw with the 4th Region school.

Nick Adams found the net in the 77th minute as the Tigers finished up action in the Donley Classic at Madisonville-North Hopkins on Saturday.

Caldwell (3-7-2) had dropped its opener in the event earlier in the day to Bullitt East 7-0.

But the Tigers, who played without five starters who are still out for various reasons, came back with a more spirited effort against Greenwood (8-7-1).

The teams battled through a scoreless first 40 minutes and were still 0-0 midway through the second half.

However, the Gators struck for the game’s first goal in the 62nd minute, scoring off a rebound.

With Greenwood owning time of possession in the second half, it looked like that goal might hold up.

But Blake Vivrette found Adams in front of the box. Adams make a quick touch to get around the keeper, then finished into the empty net to knot the score at 1-1.

Corbin Nichols make 14 saves in the Tiger net.

It was the first matchup ever between Caldwell and Greenwood in boys’ soccer.

The Tigers also faced Bullitt East for the first time ever, but saw the Chargers (8-5) build a 5-0 halftime lead on the way to the 7-0 victory.

Nichols had 10 saves in that contest for Caldwell.

The Tigers next host Paducah Tilghman on Tuesday for Senior Night at Butler Stadium.
