Lady Blazers Stay Perfect in 8th District With Win Over Hoptown (w/PHOTOS)

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers took another step towards the top seed in the 8th District volleyball tournament Monday night. The Lady Blazers cruised past Hopkinsville in straight sets to move to 5-0 in district play with a big matchup against Christian County coming up September 30.

Monday night, the Lady Blazers were in control of the match essentially from the moment it started. In the opening set, leading 12-6, UHA scored five straight to take the lead out to 17-6. The Lady Blazers would also score the final five points of the set as they won 25-11 to go up 1-0.

The second set saw the Lady Tigers push the Lady Blazers deep into the set. With the lead at 19-18, UHA scored the next six points to close out the set 25-18 and to extend their lead in the match to 2-0.

The third set was all Lady Blazers. UHA jumped out to a 15-3 lead and then rolled on to a 25-9 win to close out the sweep.

Sarah Peebles had a big night setting things up for the Lady Blazers, finishing the match with 25 assists. Olivia Oakley had nine digs for UHA. At the net, Julia Thomas led the attack with ten kills. Olivia Oakley added eight. Oakley and Sarah Peebles had four service aces each.

UHA gets back to action Tuesday night when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Hopkinsville returns to action next Tuesday when they travel to Webster County.
