Lady Wildcats Fall to St. Mary in Four Sets

Stephen Erdmann was not pleased with the play of his Trigg County volleyball team against St. Mary six days ago when the Lady Vikings cruised to a straight-set win.

The first-year Lady Wildcat coach was much more pleased with what he saw Monday in the return trip to St. Mary. The Lady Vikings claimed a 25-11, 25-22, 21-25, 25-12 win Monday in Paducah.

“We had moments where we looked like the team I’ve been waiting to see all season, and then we had waves of free-balls, passive hits, and poor communication where the ball stayed on our side of the court with hitting and passing errors,” Erdmann said. “We’re not going to score points off of free balls, and if we do, those are rare occasions.  A lot of it comes back to just practicing good form:  keeping behind the ball, drawing our arm back and opening up, and following through properly.”

Erdmann said Trigg’s serve-receive game is still a work in progress and they try and find consistency.

“We had some good passes throughout the night, but the consistency is not there, and that is also a controllable part of the game as it relates to our form.  We had too many over-passes because we were getting too tall in our stance and too tight in our shoulders.  Our inaccuracy also affects our ability to set.”

Trigg County falls to 2-16 but will try and complete the regular-season sweep of Livingston Central Tuesday when the Lady Cardinals visit Wildcat Gym.
