The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers won for their 5th time in their last seven volleyball matches Thursday evening. The Lady Blazers were impressive in picking up a tough four-set win over the Webster County Lady Trojans in Blazer Gym.
The first set came down to the final points before the Lady Blazers inched their way out to the 25-22 win to go up one set to none in the match.
The second set saw UHA find a bit more breathing room as the Lady Blazers took a 25-18 win and moved out to a 2-0 lead in the match.
Just about the time it looked as if the Lady Blazers might complete the sweep, Webster County said “not so fast.” The Lady Trojans used a big run in the middle of the set to get to the lead and they would carry it out from there, taking the set 25-19 to trail two sets to one.
But, on this night, there would be no rally for the Lady Trojans. The Lady Blazers completed the task in a strong fashion, taking the fourth set 25-19 to close out the match 3-1.
Julia Thomas was big at the net for the Lady Blazers, finishing the match with 13 kills. Claire Chewning added to the attack with a standout performance at the net with 11 kills. Olivia Oakley added seven.
Sarah Peebles had a stellar night setting up her teammates, finishing the match with 33 assists. Evelyn Cotthoff ended the night with 15 digs while Maddie Meacham finished with 14.
With the win, UHA improves to 11-6 on the season. The Lady Blazers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Smithland to take on Livingston Central.
