Undefeated Mayfield rolled into Fryar Stadium on Friday night and put up 42 1st-quarter points on the way to a 55-0 rout of the host Fort Campbell Falcons.

The winless Falcons suffer a second straight shut out to slip to 0-1 in district play.  Mayfield moves to 6-0 while averaging over 40 points per contest.

While keeping the Falcons bottled up in their own end, the Cardinals scored on their first three offensive plays to put the game away in the opening five minutes.

Mayfield’s Kylan Galbreath entered the game averaging over 120 yards per game on the ground with eight touchdowns, and he added to that number with a 42-yard scoring run inside the first forty seconds.

After taking over on the Fort Campbell 23 after a short punt, quarterback Zane Cartwright hit Daniel Coles for a touchdown.  The Cardinals’ third score in as many plays came on a screen pass that Isaac Stevenson took 25 yards for a 21-0 lead with just five minutes played.

Cartwright and Nathan Watkins hooked up for a 41-yard TD to stretch the advantage to 28-0.  After a blocked punt gave Mayfield the ball on the Falcon 17, Galbreath only needed one touch to collect his second rushing touchdown of the game.

The Cardinals closed out an explosive 1st quarter with a 6-yard scoring run by Jutarious Starks for a 42-point margin.

Mayfield added a single touchdown in the 2nd quarter, taking advantage of good field position after Ian Williams recovered a Fort Campbell fumble.  On 2nd down, Tre Barnes ran it in from 24 yards with 9:40 left in the half.

The Falcons picked up their first 1st down of the game early in the 3rd quarter but turned the ball over on downs near midfield.

Mayfield backup QB Mack Whiteside got in on the act to add the final score on a short run with 11:40 to play in the game.

Fort Campbell put together its most sustained drive over the final seven minutes, with quarterback Darin Frederick and RB Darrion Hudson each rushing for 1st downs.  However, on 4th and 9 from the Mayfield 35, Frederick’s pass was picked off at the 19-yard line.

The Falcons will hit the road for another district matchup next week at Murray High.

Mayfield will put its perfect record on the line when they travel to Princeton to face Caldwell County.
