The Monroe County Falcons scored on the final play of the third quarter and then held off the Todd County Central Rebels over the final 12 minutes of the game to pick up a 13-7 win in Tompkinsville Friday night. The win was the first of the season for the Falcons, who have not scored more than 14 points in a game so far this season.
The game was a scoreless battle into the second quarter when the Rebels finally broke the ice. Gavyn Nolan connected with Preston Moore for a 22-yard score with 5:16 to go in the half to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead.
Monroe County would come right back to even things up. Jameson Petett found Jordan Page from nine yards out for the touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. That would be the score as the two teams went into the locker room at the break.
The Falcons then got to the lead as the third quarter came to an end. Again it was Jameson Petett with the touchdown pass. This time he hooked up with John Harlin for a 12-yard score on the final play of the third quarter to give Monroe County the 13-7 lead, a lead that would still be on the board at the final horn.
Todd Central finished the night with 130 yards rushing and 95 passing, for 225 total yards. Monroe County had 154 yards rushing and 70 yards passing for a total of 224 yards.
The loss drops the Rebels to 2-4 on the season. They return home next Friday night for a big district matchup against Owensboro Catholic.
