Caldwell County’s guys played a pair of 2-1 matches in the Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville on Saturday.

The Tigers fell to Hopkinsville by that score in the morning but came back to win over Muhlenberg County in the afternoon.

Hoptown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first contest.

Miguel Magana scored in the 25th minute to put the orange-and-black Tigers up 1-0 at halftime.

Hopkinsville (1-12) added another goal in the 45th minute in a header by Spencer Powell to take its 2-0 lead.

Caldwell cut the margin in half in the 59th minute on a goal by Blake Vivrette.

But the blue-and-gold Tigers could never net the equalizer.

In the afternoon tilt, Caldwell struck in the 7th minute when a shot by Vivrette went off a Muhlenberg defender and found its way into the net.

Caldwell goalkeeper Corbin Nichols assisted on the Tigers’ next goal in the 33rd minute. Grayden Miller ran on to Nichols’ long boot and buried a shot into the corner of the net to put Caldwell up 2-0.

Muhlenberg (6-7-2) made things interesting late. Dylan Niemi scored in the 67th minute to trim the margin to 2-1.

The Mustangs put pressure on the Caldwell net the rest of the way but could never draw even.

The Tigers are now 5-9-2.
