The Hopkinsville Tigers picked up a split of their two matches Saturday at the Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions. The Tigers picked up their first win of the season in a 2-1 win over Caldwell County in the first match but were then blanked by St. Mary 2-0 in the final match of the event Saturday evening.

In their first match against Caldwell County, Hoptown jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Miguel Magana scored in the 25th minute to put the orange-and-black Tigers up 1-0 at halftime.

Hopkinsville added another goal in the 45th minute on a header by Spencer Powell to take a 2-0 lead.

Caldwell cut the margin in half in the 59th minute on a goal by Blake Vivrette. But the blue-and-gold Tigers could never net the equalizer as Hoptown held on for the win.

In their final match of the day, Aidan Hrdlicka scored just two and a half minutes into the match for the Vikings and that would turn out to be enough for St. Mary as their defense put the clamps on the Tigers. The Vikings would later add an insurance goal as they went on to pick up the two-goal win.

Hopkinsville finished the match with 12 shots on goal but could just not find a way to get one to land in the back of the net.

The Tigers get back to action Monday as they kick off the final week of the regular season with a road match at Trigg County.
