Chris Salazar’s free kick with three minutes left in the match turned out to be the difference as the Todd County Central Rebels fought off the Mayfield Cardinals Saturday in Elkton. The win was the third in the last four matches for the Rebels.
Todd County Central got on the board first in the match. Tanner Henderson scored on a shot across the face of the goal at the 10:00 to put the Rebels up 1-0.
Mayfield answered right back to even the match at 1-1. That would be the score at the break as the two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the half.
Midway through the second half, Zack Robinson found the net off a corner kick from Chris Salazar to put the Rebels up 2-1. Again, the Cardinals responded shortly after, scoring on a free kick to even the match at 2-2, setting the stage for Salazar’s heroics.
Jonah Rager had a big day in goal for the Rebels, finishing with 12 saves.
Todd County now improves to 3-8-2. The Rebels will host Logan County Tuesday evening in Elkton.
