Conlee Lindsey used a strong first nine-hole score to finish ninth Monday at the Region 2 Girls’ Golf Tournament at the Madisonville Country Club. As a team, UHA placed fourth in the 13-team field.
The University Heights Academy freshman began her day on the back nine of the par-73 course and shot a 40 that included five pars and a birdie.
Lindsey had a birdie on her 11th hole and survived a lost ball penalty on the par-5 8th hole. She finished with an 86 for the round and qualified for her first state tournament by three shots.
It was quite a turnaround from last year when Lindsey went to a playoff and missed out on a trip to state, watching her sister Rheagan shoot low enough to qualify.
This year, the roles were reversed as Rheagan shot an 89 to tie with Apollo’s Claire Reynolds for the seventh and final individual qualifying spot for the state tournament.
Both golfers returned to the par-4, 327-yard first hole for the playoff. Both missed the green on their second shots. Reynolds put her chip closer than Lindsey and was able to two-putt for a par and the playoff win. Lindsey’s full round included a birdie and four pars.
Ava Colburn equaled her career-low score with a 95. She shot a 48 on the front nine and a 47 on the back nine. Her round included four pars and a birdie.
Lucy Wilkins shot a 144 with three bogeys in the round.
UHA’s team score of 414 was 34 shots behind third-place Hopkinsville. Madisonville won the team title with a score of 320.
