Caldwell County junior Claire Knoth is headed to the KHSAA State Golf Championship after qualifying in regional action Tuesday at Murray Country Club.
Knoth struggled some on the front nine, shooting a 43 on that side in the region tourney.
However, she was even over her next seven holes to stay in contention for a state bid. A bogey on No. 17 and a double on 18 pushed her to 9-over for the day, but her 82 was good enough to claim a trip to Bowling Green next week.
That tied her for ninth individually in the 1st Region tournament.
However, team champion Marshall County held four of those spots in front of Knoth, and those players qualified automatically for state.
That put Knoth inside the next seven lowest scores, which all punched their ticket to the state tourney.
Bowling Green Country Club will host state. A practice round is set for Monday, with the first round next Tuesday and the final round slated for next Wednesday.
Knoth returned home from Murray, changed uniforms, and helped the Caldwell volleyball team beat Hopkins County Central 25-14, 25-8, 25-11 Tuesday night. She had five digs, a kill and an ace in that match.
