The Greenwood Gators were likely a foul bunch of reptiles after dropping their first game of the season last week at home to the Glasgow Scotties. The Gators worked out their frustrations on the Christian County Colonels Friday night as they rolled past the Colonels 39-7 in a district matchup in Bowling Green.

The Gators got on the board early when Ira Matheos rambled 33 yards with 9:01 to go in the opening quarter to give Greenwood an 8-0 lead. That would still be the score when the quarter came to an end.

Greenwood would find the end zone again when James Salchli found Marquese Trussell from 13-yards out with 8:17 to go in the first half, giving the Gators a 14-0 lead.

Later in the second quarter, a short punt set Greenwood up at the Christian County 32-yard line. After a 31-yard pass, James Salchli ran it in from one yard out to extend the Gator lead out to 20-0 and the Gators were not done yet.

After the Colonels were stopped on their next possession, Andrew Hatcher took the punt back 75 yards to the house and Greenwood’s lead grew to 26-0. That would be the score as the two teams headed back into the locker room at the break.

Greenwood struck again in the final seconds of the third quarter. This time it was a 40-yard touchdown pass from James Salchli to Lake Ratliff as the Gators pushed the lead out to 32-0.

The Gators would get the running clock into play when Reece Stafford scored from eight yards out in the 4th quarter to make it a 39-0 lead.

The Colonels would get on the board in the final moments of the game. A.J. Harvey ripped off a 17-yard run right up the middle inside the final minute to cut the lead to 39-7.

For the night, Greenwood outgained the Colonels 490 to 188 in total offense.

A.J.Harvey led the Colonels on the offensive end, rushing the ball for 92 yards and a touchdown.

The loss drops the Colonels to 1-6 on the year and 0-1 in district play.

Greenwood improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the district.

Christian County is off next Friday night. The Colonels return to action October 14 when they host South Warren.
