Lady Blazers Claim Copper Bracket Title at Quad State Tournament

After a tough start in the 2021 Quad State Tournament, the UHA Lady Blazers finished out the weekend strong. The Lady Blazers won their final two matches in the event to claim the copper bracket title. The tournament was played Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday in Paducah.

University Heights got play started with a pair of matches Friday evening. In their opener, the Lady Blazers were matched up against Community Christian Academy. CCA took the opening set 25-17. The Lady Blazers rebounded by taking the second set 25-18 and forcing the deciding third set. The third set came down to the wire with Community Christian pulling out a 15-13 win.

The Lady Blazers finished play Friday night by taking on 3rd Region contender Owensboro Catholic. The Lady Aces took the opening set 25-18. Catholic then closed out the two-set sweep by rolling through the second set 25-14.

Saturday got underway with the Lady Blazers matched up against the Lady Raiders from Warren East in their final match of pool play. Warren East took the opening set in a tight battle 25-22. The Lady Raiders then closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the second set.

With their pool results, UHA moved into the copper bracket to finish out the day Saturday. The Lady Blazers’ first match in the bracket was against Germantown, Tennessee. UHA fell in the opening set 25-21. The Lady Blazers then battled back to take the second set 25-14. UHA kept rolling from there, taking the third and deciding set handily 15-5.

The Lady Blazers returned to the court to take on the Mayfield Lady Cardinals in the finals of the copper bracket. UHA opened the match taking the first set 25-20. The second set saw the Lady Blazers roll to a 25-14 win to complete the two-set sweep.

After their busy weekend in Paducah, the Lady Blazers will be back in action Tuesday night when they host Apollo.
