Less than three weeks after the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers picked up their first win over the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers, they decided to do it again, and this time with higher stakes. Anna Hernandez and Morgan Woosley each scored first-half goals and the Lady Tiger defense clamped down on the Lady Blazers as the Lady Tigers picked up their first district championship since 2015 and ended UHA’s bid for a 6th straight title.

Anna Hernandez found the net just nine minutes into the match. She got a shot just over the top of the outreached hands of MacKenzie Young as Hopkinsville got the early 1-0 lead.

Late in the half, around the 34:00 mark, the Lady Blazers were called for a foul in the box. Morgan Woosley calmly stepped up and buried the penalty kick to extend the Hoptown lead to 2-0.

UHA tried to turn up the pressure in the second half and did outshoot the Lady Tigers 10-3 over the final forty minutes, but Vy Nguyen came up big for Hopkinsville in goal and kept the shutout intact.

Nguyen had solid help in front of her, especially from Faith Folz, Taryn Underwood, and Rebecca Wood.

Since trailing UHA 2-0 at the half, back on September 18, Hopkinsville has outscored the Lady Blazers 5-0 over 120 minutes of play.

The win improves the Lady Tigers’ record to 9-7-1 on the year. UHA falls to 7-6-1. Both teams will move on to next week’s 2nd Region girls’ soccer tournament.
